On October 22, 2026, Google announced filtered exports of Gemini in Workspace conversations through Vault. Eligible plans include Business Plus. Exports cover conversations created with history enabled; the company promises API support within 14 days of the interface launch.
Practical significance
Owners of small companies already using an eligible plan can ask their administrator to check this new way of obtaining work-related AI history. It is not a reason to download every employee’s archive without a defined purpose.
Nadali’s suggested sequence:
- Establish the plan, the person responsible for Vault and the agreed purpose of the check.
- Review conversation-history and deletion settings. Do not assume a missing record can be recovered.
- Agree a small test using a non-sensitive conversation and a limited time window. Record what was actually retrieved.
- Decide beforehand who may read the export and where it will be stored. Do not forward work conversations to another AI service merely for convenient analysis.
Side-panel conversation history already existed: Google reported its rollout complete in April. Administrative history-deletion settings should not be confused with separate Vault rules.
Availability and limits
The new announcement says the interface is available now, but retention rules and litigation holds specifically for Gemini in Workspace remain planned for future releases. Export support therefore does not mean comprehensive preservation of all conversations.
There is a source discrepancy: the supported-data help page, updated October 20, still excludes Google Workspace with Gemini. For the new launch, Nadali relies on the later dated announcement, not a check of a particular account.
The takeaway: establish availability and limits with a small, agreed example before relying on exports in a business process. Nadali has not performed exports or assessed their legal sufficiency. Read also about data-use boundaries.
