On 26 October, OpenAI announced GPT-6.1 Terra in ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API. It is a new model for working with images, computer interfaces and text, not a new accounting service.
Who may find this useful
Small-business owners or automation leads already using Work, Codex or the API to read documents. The practical reason to look is to assess a new model on a familiar task, rather than immediately hand over an entire process.
Access and pricing
OpenAI’s current release notes include Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu in the rollout. Access depends on plan, region and workspace permissions. The model is available in Work and Codex, not Chat; overall plan limits are unchanged. UAE inference residency is unsupported: this concerns where processing runs, not the user’s location.
The API identifier is gpt-6.1-terra. The announcement lists standard prices per million tokens: $1 for input, $0.05 for cached input and $5 for output. These are not prices for a completed business task.
The model documentation separately describes cache writes and adjustments for long context, regional processing and Fast mode. Tool calling requires the Responses API. Ask your technical lead to calculate the actual cost of the entire workflow, including tools and retries.
A first check without changing the work system
The following is an editorial proposal, not a test we conducted.
- Choose a few documents approved for processing, without sensitive data, and write down the correct values of the required fields beforehand.
- Ask the model to extract only those fields and identify their source page. An unclear value should remain unknown.
- Compare the result manually. For an invoice, separately check currency, number and total; do not grant permission to create payments or change bank details.
- Record errors, review time and actual API costs if you used it. Compare the same documents and expected output with your usual working method.
Our article on checking invoices without automating payments provides a fuller process.
Takeaway: a new model is a reason to check access and task quality, not proof of savings. Nadali has not tested Terra in a working account or measured its accuracy or speed.
