On 14 October 2026, Google announced Enhanced protection for Google Messages. The opt-in mode is due to roll out in the coming weeks. It will combine cloud Gemini analysis of conversations with unknown senders through Private AI Compute with on-device Gemini Nano link checks using real-time web signals. The supported-device lists differ between these features.

Where messages will be processed

In its Private AI Compute explanation, Google describes a separate, encrypted cloud environment. The company says data inside it is inaccessible even to Google. This is a claimed platform property, not an independent Nadali verification. Privacy in a cloud environment does not mean processing happens only on the phone. Separately, voluntarily reporting spam sends the message contents to Google.

Meanwhile, Android AICore help describes Gemini Nano running locally and feature availability varying by device. That general description does not remove the new Messages mode’s cloud component or establish that all its checks work offline.

What a small team should check

Our practical takeaway for a shop, hotel or service business is to separate three questions before using the mode on work phones.

  • Compatibility: record each phone model and check support for the particular feature you need. Having Android does not mean every device has identical capabilities
  • Information: identify the customer and business information arriving in messages, and agree on cloud processing with whoever owns your data-handling rules
  • Decisions: decide whom employees should alert about a suspicious request. Verify unusual changes to payment details or requests for access through a previously known contact, rather than a number supplied in the message

Do not treat the absence of an alert as permission to act. In its help page for scam detection in chat notifications, Google warns that detection may miss scams. Human review should remain a separate step before consequential actions.

As of 15 October 2026, Nadali has not confirmed availability of the new mode in Ukraine or tested it on devices. These steps are editorial recommendations, not trial results. The announcement alone is not a reason to change settings across all work phones.
