On 14 October 2026, Square introduced a new restaurant ordering kiosk and said sales were starting that day. The standalone device has a 21.5-inch screen and does not require an iPad.

According to Square’s instructions, voice AI uses the restaurant’s menu and configured item options. The kiosk reads back the order for the customer to confirm or correct. Customers can switch to touch during an order, and staff can disable voice ordering.

Price and operating requirements

The US announcement lists $1,999 for the device with a counter stand and a $99 monthly software fee per kiosk. It also requires Square Plus at $49 or Premium at $149 per location per month. A different stand changes the hardware price. We have not verified taxes, delivery or payment-processing fees; confirm the complete cost and package before buying.

Setup requires an active Square POS device and stable internet. Voice ordering needs a continuous connection; the kiosk supports neither cash nor offline payments. Legacy Restaurants POS Plus/Premium plans require a separate discussion with a Square account manager. Availability in Ukraine and Ukrainian voice support remain unverified.

Square also warns about ambient noise and a neighbouring kiosk picking up speech. It recommends at least 24 inches, approximately 61 cm, between devices.

What a restaurant should check

Our editorial takeaway: the launch is most relevant to counter-service restaurants already using Square that meet the setup requirements. Before purchasing, confirm supported languages and try orders under actual service noise, including ingredient changes, corrections and delivery of the order to the kitchen. Keep a staffed ordering option; switching to touch does not resolve a lost connection. Allergen questions should stay within approved procedures and review by trained staff.

The sources reviewed do not establish independently measured accuracy, labour savings or sales growth for the new kiosk. Each restaurant needs to assess its results in its own trial.
