Prepared by the Nadali editorial team using AI
On 28 October 2026, OpenAI announced API credits for eligible Business workspaces. They require activation for a linked API organization; they do not top up the ChatGPT usage balance.
Who it helps
Small businesses already using ChatGPT Business with a custom API integration or a limited test planned with a developer. Our editorial takeaway: verify the actual grant before approving a test budget. The announcement alone is not evidence of savings for your company.
Availability and amount
Under OpenAI’s terms, an eligible paid subscription must be at least seven days old. Availability also depends on country and rollout cohort. Activation requires ownership of both the Business workspace and API organization, permission to manage its billing, and matching account email addresses.
The API documentation specifies $20 per paid Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, pooled with a $500 cap per monthly billing period. The first grant is prorated for the remaining period. Annually prepaid workspaces receive the annual grant upfront. Unused credits expire at the end of the applicable billing cycle.
What to check before testing
Our editorial recommendation is to assign a short reconciliation to the person responsible for the integration:
- Open the offer in billing settings, check the receiving API organization and, after activation, confirm the grant in its API billing.
- Record the actual amount and expiry. Do not substitute the headline maximum for that record.
- Agree on one test workflow, a quality criterion and a stopping point. Do not expand automation just to consume credits.
- Decide in advance who will authorize further spending or a return to manual work.
An important restriction: these credits do not cover Codex through API keys. Once promotional credits run out, existing purchased API credits can continue to be used. A promotional balance should therefore not be treated as a safeguard against all spending.
Nadali has not activated this offer in a reader’s account or tested savings. This concerns an announcement made on 28 October and checked on 31 October, not a universal guarantee of access today.
